(NEWS10) –  Saratoga Springs City Council passed an ordinance that bans homeless shelters from being located near schools. Advocates say it sends the wrong message because it equates homeless people to pedophiles. At a packed city council meeting on Tuesday, most people were there to share their thoughts on the local law banning homeless shelters from being located within 1,000 feet of schools. Lawmakers discuss funding for migrant students ALBANY, N.Y. (WTEN) -- More than 90,000 asylum seekers have entered the state, that number continues to grow. NYS Senator James Tedisco is taking steps to help children with language barriers adjust to New York. "Give them the funding necessary to give these kids the education they deserve," said Senator Jim Tedisco, who is asking the Governor to initiate a plan to aid school districts with costs needed to help students who may not speak English. Ventura police officer fatally shoots off-leash dog A police officer in Ventura shot and killed a dog that was off leash and apparently had tried to bite him early Thursday, authorities said.The incident occurred around 4 a.m. while officers was on routine patrol along Ash Street.The dog was not leashed and “immediately headed toward” the direction of the officers, police detailed in a news release.“As the dog approached one of the officers, it circled behind him, and attempted to bite him.
