Denver Mayor Mike Johnston has nominated two existing public safety cabinet members chosen by former Mayor Michael Hancock to stay in their positions.Johnston in a Tuesday news release announced nominations of Ron Thomas to continue as Denver police chief and Armando Saldate III to continue as executive director of the Denver Department of Public Safety. The nominations will need city council approval.“Public safety is one of my top priorities as Mayor,” Johnston said in the news release. “We laid out a big vision for what’s possible in Denver, and we’re delighted that Armando and Chief Thomas share this vision. The Treasury Department sanctions, coordinated with the United Kingdom, come in response to the surprise Oct. 7 attack by Hamas on Israel that left roughly 1,200 people dead or kidnapped. The sanctions block access to U.S. property and bank accounts and prevent the targeted people and companies from doing business with Americans.This and two previous rounds of sanctions against Hamas and its affiliates are aimed at protecting the international financial system from abuse by Hamas militants and their enablers, the Treasury Department said. Tustin schools closed again Tuesday amid hangar fire

Tustin students continued to learn from home on Tuesday amid the ongoing blaze at a historic hangar that ignited last week.A wall of the 17-story North Tustin Hangar reignited on Sunday, and school officials implemented virtual learning plans instead of hosting in-person classes.While the school closures have only been confirmed for Monday and Tuesday so far this week, it's possible the closures could extend longer. Tustin schools remain closed as hangar fire effects linger "Please know that based upon this evolving situation, it is possible that all TUSD schools will finish this week in virtual instruction," Tustin Unified School District Superintendent Mark Johnson said in an announcement. Pursuit suspect escapes after crashing stolen vehicle in downtown Los Angeles

Police are searching for a stolen vehicle suspect who led officers on a pursuit before crashing in downtown Los Angeles Tuesday morning. The Los Angeles Police Department's Newton station was first called about the incident around 1 a.m.Officers pursued the stolen vehicle to West 8th Street and South Grand Avenue, where the suspect crashed into another driver, an LAPD spokesperson confirmed. The unidentified suspect then fled on foot to a nearby parking lot but was not located.The driver of the vehicle that was struck was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries, police said. No description of the outstanding suspect was released.

Bay Area inflation cools off to slowest pace in more than two years

The Bay Area inflation rate, which has crushed consumers beneath the weight of sky-high prices, cooled off in a big way in October, rising at its slowest annual pace in more than two years, the government reported Tuesday.The consumer price index in the Bay Area rose at an annual rate of just 2.8% in October, according to the latest report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.The nationwide inflation rate rose at a yearly pace of 3.2% in October, the federal labor agency reported.The 2.8% rise in Bay Area prices compared to the year before was the slowest rate of annual increase since February 2021, when the region’s inflation rate rose 1.6%.
